I'm sure we are all familiar withmovies like Sex and the City, sisterhood of the traveling pants, and Bridesmaids. But there were never enough movies or shows like Girlfriends, until  Malcolm D. Lee's Girl's Trip, displaying Black girl magic. There were not enough shows or movies displaying positive images of Black sisterhood. It has always beenreality shows misrepresenting black women. The media's image of the black woman is everything but positive, it's angry, loud, violent, hyper-sexualized, irrational, crazy, too strong and too prideful. We are so much better and so much more than that. So when I watched Girl's Trip for the first time (because I saw it twice) it blew me away because it exceeded my expectations. It was more than a comedy, it showed the reality of a friendship, the good times, the bad times, and the missed time because we don't always see each other as often as we would like but when we get to it our friendship hasn't missed a beat.  The four women in the movie Ryan ( Regina Hall), Sasha (Queen Latifah), Dina (Tiffany Haddish), and Lisa (Jada Pinkett Smith) brought all the elements of a friendship to the big screen, making us laugh, cry, and most importantly relate. They reminded us of the importance of making time for your girls, and being real with them even when it's not what they want to hear. True and positive definitions of Black sisterhood are important for us Black women of all ages, because reality tv only shows as petty and angry. Girl's Trip let everyone know and reminded us that we are more than just that, we are beautiful, strong, independent, always reinventing, smart, courageous, adventurous, optimistic, and fun. We need this message to spread throughout the black community first and foremost, because we give each other the hardest time. Amongst black women alone, we criticize one another indefinitely and forget that we are in this together, that we are sisters. Lets bring the positivity to reality by supporting each other emotionally, mentally, spiritually, and financially by not only supporting each others' businesses but providing great service. Support your friends, sisters, cousins, mothers, aunts; their dreams, blogs, clothing lines, and other lines of businesses.

Representing ourselves in a positive light is not only for our own benefit, but to set a good example for our daughters, nieces, and our younger generation of black girls.

So if you haven't seen this Girl's Trip already, grab your girls and go!
