BK ART & MUSIC

Flatbush, Brooklyn, NY: Artist/Rapper, Shane Hamlet

- When did you start making music and what made you start?

I started making music about 2 years ago with a freestyle called mathematics over the mos def instrumental that I was afraid to do. What made me start and what ultimately helped me get over my initial fear was the fact that I always liked to freestyle while playing around when I was cyphing with the homies. I guess you can say they motivated me.

- Who is your inspiration?

I have 3 inspirational representations in my life, besides the Lord Jesus Christ of course. The first one is my mother because she represents my character and humility. She does her best to not too "mom-ish" at times but her love and support is the most genuine and that’s irreplaceable. The second one is my city, more specifically my neighborhood, Flatbush, where as I was growing up served as a platform for me to improve my way of living for my family and myself. It represents my common sense and loyalty. Its great to see the Bush on the come up in terms of creativity, but its always been here. Last but not least, Kanye West, simply because I feel as though he represents the trials every creative person goes through-brilliant philosophy but misunderstood; plus you can see his passion, I need that passion.

- What sets you apart from other artists?

What makes me unique is that I absolutely refuse to be attached to a sub-genre within hip-hop. Like, why would you, a creative, purposely remove opportunities from yourself due to the fact that that's not what you do? It makes no sense. I have no problem with expanding my range as long as other artists are willing to experiment with their sound. You can catch Shane Hamlet on anything from a slow ballad to the most hood booger shit you've ever heard in your life, I'll still find a way to make it some heat rock

- Where do you see yourself 5 years from now?

Ruling the world. Period. Anything less than that means I’m not working hard enough.

- What do you hope to accomplish?

I just want to make really good music. I want good people to dig my music and tell their friends about the good music they just bumped. I want Smooth Family Ent (SFE) to become a household name, not only in the rap game, but also throughout all aspects of art. I just want live comfortably with my homies, enjoying life.

- Where can we hear your music?

SmoothFamilyEnt.com coming soon! I've been working diligently for about 5 months on it, just putting some of the finishing touches because I want the debut of it to be dope. But for now, sound cloud Shane Hamlet or Smooth Family Radio, the heat rock is up there.

- How would you describe your sound?

My sound's unorthodox homie, mainly because of my voice. T definitely helps me when trying to figure out how to approach a song. Like I said earlier, I don’t limit myself, my sound on my previous project and my upcoming one are somewhat similar in a few ways, but overall vastly different in my opinion.
